New Market Broken Dental Crown — Can It Be Fixed?
My dental office is in New Market and I'm eager for you to visit me if your dental crowns suddenly break or crack.
Crowns can eventually weaken. The ones you find readily available in my New Market dental crown office are very durable. In fact, they could give you 15 years. Possibly more. Possibly less.
There are some really strong crowns being manufactured in modern times. But they could disintegrate before you know it if you are one of those people who give their teeth a hard time. Grinding your teeth is a real culprit. Many folks do this during their sleep although almost all of them have no idea.
And you get others who chew aggressively when they eat, or chew on ice.
When a dental crown cracks, it can be blamed most of the time on the porcelain. Or the ceramic portion of the dental crown. You probably won't find cracks on gold or metal alloys because these adjust to grinding and other pressure-related actions of your jaw.
Because of this, metals like gold are great for providing a foundation for your dental crowns.
However, while metals can do the job really well, they are not really pleasing to the eye. So we use porcelain fused to metal crown. Even better is to give you pure ceramic crowns free of metals. Crowns like these, however, can break more easily.
The best thing about porcelain is how real they look. It is because of its color and texture. However, they are pretty soft. They can't adapt to the pressure of your jaw muscles when you chew or grind.
Not only that but porcelain's brittle nature means that if one area is broken, it spreads to other areas.
You cannot keep a broken ceramic crown in your mouth. Once it breaks, it has to be replaced. Leaving broken crowns alone is not the answer because it is not good for healthy teeth. Infection might set in. Unless you seek treatment quickly, your crown may be beyond saving. It may result in us replacing your whole tooth. Quite possibly using a dental implant.
So, if you are in New Market and have a broken New Market dental crown, it would do you good to visit my clinic and let us fix your problem.
